The PositionCONTINUOUS The Board of Supervisors have authorized the following future salary increases for this classification: 5% on July 1, 2025 Bargaining Unit: Local 856 - Health Services Unit Contra Costa County Health Services Department is recruiting individuals on a continuous basis to fill journey-level Physical Therapist positions. Therapists may be assigned to the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and its Health Centers or the California Children Services Programs located throughout the County.
Physical Therapist II is a journey-level classification. Incumbents perform a full range of general therapy treatments while developing and learning the skills and knowledge necessary to apply more advanced and/or specialized treatments.

The eligible list established from this recruitment may remain in effect for six months.
Typical Tasks- Evaluates, plans and implements advanced or specialized therapy treatments in accordance with medical direction
- Administers or supervises the administration of physical therapy treatments, including but not limited to the following areas:
- neuromuscular facilitation and reeducation
- assistive orthotic and prosthetic device fabrication fitting and training
- temporary splinting and gait training
- bracing soft and bony tissue mobilization
- manual and mechanical traction
- hydrotherapy, cryotherapy, thermal therapy and massage
- tratiscutaneous neuromscular and electrical stimulation
- Provides technical advice and assistance to less experienced therapists
- May assist in training them on the more specialized therapy treatments
- Instructs patients in pain management, injury prevention, posture correction and body mechanics
- Monitors and facilitates patients' progress
- Develops or directs development of special equipment
- Provides and promotes excellent customer service for all internal and external customers
- Explains medical recommendations with respect to physical therapy, to patients and their families
- Observes patient reaction, keeps records and prepares required reports
- Administers diagnostic and prognostic tests
- Provides consultation and education relative to therapy treatment considerations
- Collaborates with other care providers to ensure proper patient treatment and follow-up
- Secures and returns clinic supplies and equipment and maintains required records and statistics
- Prepares reports of patient treatment, discharge planning and evaluation of treatment services
- Provides training and work direction to aides, assistants, interns and volunteers
- Consults with other therapists as needed
Minimum QualificationsLicense Required: Possession and maintenance of a valid license as a Physical Therapist issued by the Physical Therapy Board of California.
Experience: Two years of full-time experience or its equivalent as a Physical Therapist.
Certification: Must possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association or a CPR certification issued by the American Red Cross.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: A background investigation/fingerprint and/or physical exam may be required prior to the start of employment.
Applicants must submit a copy of a valid License Physical Therapist issued by the Physical Therapy Board of California, a copy of a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association, or a CPR certification issued by the American Red Cross AND a completed supplemental questionnaire. An application submitted without a valid License and supplemental questionnaire will be considered incomplete and will therefore be disqualified. Selection Process 1. DISASTER SERVICE WORKERAll Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
