The Job

This recruitment is only open to current San Bernardino County, Fire Department, or Special Districts employees who hold a regular, contract, extra-help, recurrent, Public Service Employee (PSE), Work Experience Program (WEX) or intern position. Former PSE, WEX, or interns are eligible to apply up to 6 months from the end of their assignment.

The Transitional Assistance Department (TAD) is recruiting forEligibility Workers III who, in a lead worker capacity, act as a resource for other eligibility workers in their assigned work units, identify training needs, and provide mentoring for Eligibility Worker I to assist them in learning their job functions and case management. Eligibility Workers III may also perform a review of various reports, cases and actions, including analyzing error trends and developing corrective action plans, to ensure accurate and timely case completion.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required. Employees will be required to make provisions for transportation. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation.

Pre-Employment Process: Applicants must successfully pass the pre-employment process, which may include fingerprinting, credit check, and/or medical exam, prior to appointment.

Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

Minimum Requirements

Experience: Eighteen (18) months of experience in a California Department of Social Services performing duties equivalent to an Eligibility Worker II (EW II) in San Bernardino County determining initial and continuing eligibility for a variety or public assistance programs such as CalWORKs, Medi-Cal, CalFresh, and General Relief. Candidates MUST have been employed in this capacity within the last twelve (12) months.

Eligibility Worker Trainee and Eligibility Worker I experience is not considered qualifying and MUST be listed separately on the application from time employed as a journey-level Eligibility Worker (EW II).

Desired Qualifications

Bilingual skills are highly desirable. Positions assigned to bilingual caseloads may be eligible to receive additional compensation for verbal and written translation skills. Bilingual test will be required.
