Position Summary:
Assists physicians in interventional procedures and provides diagnostic aid. Performs diagnostic exams on patients in the specialized areas of interventional radiology. Assists with diagnostic angiography, neuro- interventional, and other invasive procedures.

Distinguishing Characteristics:
This is a stand-alone classification. The incumbent in this class is on-call based on the 24-hour hospital’s business needs.

Job Requirement

Education/Experience:
Successful completion of an AMA approved Radiologic Technology Program required; and one (1) year of experience in interventional radiology preferred.

Licensing/Certification Requirements:
State of Nevada License in Radiology. Valid American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT) Registered in Radiography. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accepted by the American Heart Association (AHA). May require National Certification in Vascular Imaging.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements

Knowledge of:
Procedures and protocols associated with radiation; specialized equipment used in interventional cases; anatomy and physiology of the human body; contrast application and contrast reaction symptoms; venipuncture techniques; quality assurance and quality control measures; neuro-body disease; aseptic techniques and sterile field setup; vascular anatomy, pressures; catheter curves; rated burst pressures and compliance; personal computers; department and hospital safety practices and principles; patient rights; age specific patient care practices; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.

Skill in:
Utilizing computers and specialized application software for scanning and diagnostic evaluation; utilizing specialized equipment and techniques for diagnostic evaluation; applying aseptic techniques; positioning patients properly to maximize results; instructing patients about procedures and post-procedure rules and guidelines; performing interventional procedures; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard equipment, stamina to remain standing and/or walk for extended periods of time, vision to read printed materials and computer screens, hearing and speech to communicate effectively in-person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
