Code Enforcement Officer I:

• The incumbent will learn how to prepare for and conduct inspections of properties and structures for compliance with current City building, nuisance abatement, zoning, and sign codes and regulations.
• Identify and monitor corrective actions to be taken by property owners.
• Conduct initial and follow-up investigations of violations of state and local laws, ordinances, or codes;
• Prepare and issue infraction/misdemeanor citations for violations of City and State codes relating to nuisance, zoning, abandoned vehicles (public right-of-way), oversized trucks in residential districts and parking.
• Prepare and present evidential cases at Administrative Hearings.
• Over the course of the training period, the incumbent will be expected to independently contacthomeowners and tenants via telephone, letter, or in person, notifying them of the purpose of the inspection; make arrangements for the inspection; and prioritize and arrange action items in an equitable manner to encourage cooperation from owners and tenants.
• Document and maintain records of code enforcement activities.
• Prepare a variety of written reports, memos, and correspondence; develop statistics and maintains records as required.

 
Code Enforcement Officer II/Senior Code Enforcement Officer:

• Inspects properties and structures for compliance with current City building, nuisance abatement, zoning, and sign codes and regulations.
• Contacts homeowners and tenants via telephone, letter, or in person, notifying them of purpose of inspection; prepares arrangement for inspection; identifies corrective actions to be taken by homeowner; monitors corrections to ensure conformance with codes and regulations.
• Prioritizes and arranges action items in equitable manner to encourage cooperation from owners and tenants.
• Investigates complaints of violation of State and local laws, ordinances, or codes.
• Conducts follow-up investigations to ensure compliance with laws, codes, or ordinances.
• Provides follow-up and regular inspections of projects under construction to ensure compliance with conditions of project laws and ordinances.
• Issues infraction/misdemeanor citations for violations of City and State codes relating to nuisance, zoning, abandoned vehicles (public right-of-way), oversized trucks in residential districts and parking.
• Implements and monitors a City-wide code compliance plan.
• Documents and maintains records of code enforcement activities.
• Prepares a variety of written reports, memos, and correspondence.
• Develops statistics and maintains records as required.
• Presents evidential cases at Administrative Hearings.
• Initiates criminal and civil complaints when necessary.
