General Description

The primary role of this position is to provide legal services for the City of Atlanta and its management staff, to include interpretation of laws and regulations, provision of legal advice, preparation and review of legal documentation, management of legal matters, and other legal support as required. Duties and responsibilities include providing legal counsel and advice to support the Department of Enterprise and Asset Management and the Department of Parks and Recreation The attorney will also provide legal representation for the License Review Board and the Keep Atlanta Beautiful Commission as well as the Pension Board and Committees.

The role will handle a variety of transactions involving procurement, real estate, construction, corporate, regulatory and legislative matters. Experience with land-use, real estate development agreements, purchase and sale agreements, commercial leases, easements and construction contracts is preferred. Applicants should have experience managing paralegals and/or administrative staff. The Attorney will have extensive contact with City Council, multiple City Departments and the governing bodies of several other municipalities. Applicants should demonstrate superior writing skills, outstanding judgment, excellent analytical skills and strong negotiation skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also required. Applicants with prior experience representing a municipality, other governmental/quasi-governmental entity are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience: Juris Doctorate degree required. Six to ten (6-10) years of experience as a practicing attorney. Must be a member of good standing with the State Bar of Georgia or the ability to obtain membership within one (1) year of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in municipal, county, and/or constitutional law.

Knowledge of federal, state and municipal tax law.
