ABOUT THE JOBPerforms straightforward or standardized appraisals of real property to establish a fair and accurate value upon which taxes will be assessed. Positions may choose to work a flex schedule during parts of the year.
Key Responsibilities: - Appraiser I emphasis of work assignments is valuations of straightforward residential properties.
- Appraiser II is oriented toward working independently, conducting property appraisals, with considerable discretion and judgment in appraisal techniques that are used. Performs technical and analytical functions to determine market value of residential, farm, and forest properties.
What You Will Bring: Knowledge of or experience with:
- Modern property appraisal principles and practices, including land mapping and surveying, property description and measurement, construction principles and practices.
Skill in:
- Ability to read and interpret maps, aerial photographs, and legal descriptions.
- Basic mathematical aptitude to perform calculations.
- Ability to produce clear and concise written reports relating to appraisals.

Excellent County benefit package when eligible. This union-represented position is available immediately. Placement in the classification and pay range is dependent upon education, training and experience.

This posting is open until filled with first round applications referred on September 16, 2024.Minimum QualificationsProperty Appraiser I:- Associate’s degree with emphasis in accounting, business, real estate or related field;
- AND one (1) year of property appraisal experience;
- OR any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the job.
Property Appraiser II:- Associate’s degree with emphasis in accounting, business, real estate or related field;
- AND two (2) years of property appraisal experience;
- OR any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the job.
Necessary Special RequirementsDriving is a requirement for this position. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be contingent upon presentation of an acceptable and verifiable driver's license, pre-employment screening for criminal history, driving history, and controlled substances (NOTE: Positive test results for marijuana use may result in rescission of a contingent offer of employment). This screening must be completed with satisfactory findings in order for a formal offer of employment to be extended.
Must have dependable transportation and be able and willing to drive throughout Deschutes County in sometimes adverse weather conditions.
Possession of or ability to become registered as a qualified appraiser per ORS 308.010 within 30 days of hire date.
