ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Under general supervision, performs duties within the Water Operations Division to include installing, maintaining, and repairing water services, valves, mains, hydrants, and meters. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class. Incumbents in this class may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

QUALIFICATIONS

A high school diploma or equivalent, Grade 2 (D-2) Water Distribution Operator Certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB), AND three years of professional experience working in water operations; Must possess at the time of application and maintain a valid Class C California Driver’s License. Grade I (T1)Water Treatment Certificate is highly desirable.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed in an outdoor environment. Work may require frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting 50 pounds. Incumbents in this class may be exposed to repetitive motion, extreme temperatures and weather, moving traffic, areas under construction, hazardous fumes and chemicals, and infectious diseases.

*Incumbents in this classification must be able to work and participate in the standby/on-call program, respond to call-outs and other emergencies within a 30-minute time frame, and work after regular working hours, weekends, and holidays*

THE SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants whose experience best meets the city's needs will be invited to participate in the examination for this position. Candidates must have access to a computer with internet, video, and audio capabilities to participate in our examination process.

The examination may consist of one or more of the following: (1) Training & Experience Evaluation, (2) Writing Exercise, and (3) Qualifications Appraisal Interview with a panel of subject matter experts. Candidates must receive a score of 70 or higher to have their names placed on the active eligibility list for one year. The top three ranks on the Eligibility List will have their application materials forwarded to the hiring authority for a selection interview.
