Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Career Center Director, the Lead Employer Relations, Internship & Professional Programs Coordinator manages the overall direction and facilitates the success of Sacramento State’s internship and professional programs, philanthropic programs of the Career Center, and Anchor University and Federal Work Study Experimental Site employer initiatives. The incumbent applies knowledge and judgment using basic counseling principles and professional skills to deliver an effective internship program to students. In addition, the Lead Internship/Professional Programs Coordinator advances strategic University efforts regarding internship programs including external partner relationship management; collaboration with academic departments to assist students with finding internships; marketing and recruitment; and strategic planning as assigned. The incumbent provides the day- to-day management of internship programs and supports and contributes to team development in the Career Center. The incumbent acts as a lead liaison to the University's colleges and academic departments and campus programs to provide information, technical assistance, and consultation about developing and implementing experiential learning, internships and professional programs.

FLSA: Exempt (Not eligible for overtime compensation)

Anticipated Hiring Range: Anticipated hiring at the minimum of the classification ($6,019/ month)

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge and Abilities:

The following knowledge and abilities as well as those listed at lower levels in the Student Services Professional series are required for appointment to this classification.

Thorough knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned or the ability to quickly acquire such knowledge. General knowledge of the policies, practices and activities of Student Services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned; general knowledge of the principles, problems and methods of public administration, including organizational, personnel and fiscal management; general knowledge of advanced statistical and research methods.

Ability to carry out very complex assignments without detailed instructions; advise students individually or in groups on varied and complex matters; determine the appropriate course of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals and groups in personal interactions of a sensitive nature; reason logically and analyze and solve organizational and operating problems of one or several program areas; plan, coordinate and initiate actions necessary to implement administrative or group decisions or recommendations; analyze and define complex organizational, policy or procedural problems, collect and evaluate data, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action; understand the roles and responsibilities of others and to gauge relationships accordingly by taking into account the variety of the interrelationships, motivations and goals of the members of the organization served; and establish and maintain effective, cooperative and harmonious working relationships in circumstances which involve the denial of requests or the necessity to persuade others to accept a different point of view.

Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the Experience requirements below.

Experience:

Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent to four years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems. A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling, guidance or a job-related field may be substituted for two years of the required professional experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional, personal or career counseling.

Education:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related.

Required Qualifications

Experience:
Experience advising students individually and/or in group settings. Experience developing relationships with and persuading key constituents including deans, faculty, staff, and employers. Experience conducting research, collecting data, and developing statistical reports. Experience developing and presenting workshops, training, and presentations. Experience handling sensitive and personal information disclosed during counseling in a sensitive, caring, and helpful manner. Experience planning, developing, coordinating, and implementing programs in an academic and professional setting. Experience using Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook. Experience with tools for collaborative work such as Google Docs, MS Teams, Qualtrics, Zoom, Canvas, Handshake and other career resources. Experience with internship development.

Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work with a diverse student population. Ability to work efficiently and effectively, and to adapt to change in a dynamic work environment. Ability to organize and plan multiple projects and events with competing demands. Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in a related field. Experience working with diverse “at promise” students facing complex and highly sensitive issues individually and in a group setting. Experience using a student information system, such as PeopleSoft/CMS used in the CSU system. Knowledge of Handshake or similar software used specifically for career services, event planning and program implementation. Knowledge of current employment and job market trends. Experience with event coordination and planning. Experience with sponsored program proposals, planning and coordination. Experience leading, cultivating, and participating on campus and community committees and partnerships.
