The Position

The Contra Costa County Administrator’s Office is seeking one (1) talented individual with a strong work ethic and desire to improve local government and its communities. Deputy County Administrators serve as key members of a professional management team. The primary assignment for this position will be to support the administration of the County’s Measure X , a half-cent sales tax that generates approximately $120M annually to support crucial health, emergency response, safety-net, and essential county services.

The primary duties will include staffing the Measure X Community Advisory Board and Measure X Community Fiscal Oversight Committee, facilitating budget and audit related discussions, conducting financial and performance analysis and reporting, and assisting with the design and content development for a new county website to keep the public well informed about Measure X activities and impacts. This position may require you to work outside normal business hours.

The specific duties of the position may vary over time, but typically will require extensive involvement with County departments, other governmental bodies, advisory bodies, community-based organizations, and private entities. An essential characteristic of this class is to provide accurate, comprehensive, and timely information and recommendations to top level management staff, upon which final policy, budgetary, legislative, and administrative decisions are made. Positions in this class may also supervise subordinate staff.

Minimum Qualifications

License Required: Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator’s license. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator’s license will be accepted during the application process.

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. A degree with a major in business or public administration, public policy, social or behavioral sciences or a closely related field preferred.

Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible full-time experience, which involved professional level managerial, fiscal, personnel, administrative or analytical work. Public sector experience preferred. At least one (1) year of which must have included lead responsibility.

Experience Substitution: Four (4) years of progressively responsible full-time professional level experience with Contra Costa County, in a managerial or administrative capacity performing administrative, budgetary, or personnel activities may substitute for the required experience. At least one (1) year of which must have included lead responsibility.

OR

Experience Substitution: Possession of a master’s degree in business or public administration, accounting or closely related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience. The substitution for experience cannot be applied to the lead experience requirement.

CONVICTION HISTORY

DISASTER SERVICE WORKER
All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
