About the Department
The Department of Public Works is responsible for delivering capital improvement projects for a wide variety of City facilities and infrastructure, maintaining City facilities and fleet assets, facilitating and regulating development activities, and providing animal care and services.

Position Duties

The total salary range for the Associate Engineer classification is $130,057.20 - $164,651.76.

This salary range includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.

The Public Works Department is currently seeking to fill one Limit Dated full-time Associate Engineer vacancy as well as one full-time permanent Associate Engineer vacancy in the City Facilities Architectural Services Division (CFAS).

The City Facilities Architectural Services (CFAS) Division, Civil Engineering section is responsible for the project management and delivery of capital projects for buildings, parks, trails, libraries, public safety facilities and various cultural facilities.

The Associate Engineer classification is the third level of the engineering series and typically requires minimal supervision in the design, review, and management of projects. Incumbents of this class are typically supervised and provided lead direction and training by a Senior Engineer.

The ideal candidate will possess a high level of professionalism, excellent customer service skills, and a supreme work ethic. These positions require excellent judgment, initiative, perseverance, integrity, organizational skills, flexibility and written and verbal communications skills.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the required professional engineering discipline or possession of an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate, and three (3) years of increasingly responsible professional engineering experience.

Acceptable Substitution

A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the required professional engineering discipline may be substituted for one (1) year of professional engineering experience.

Exception

Associate Engineers working in the Building Division as plan reviewers must have four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in professional civil engineering work with at least two (2) years of experience in design and construction of buildings. An EIT certificate is not acceptable as replacement for the required Bachelor’s degree.
