The City of Palo Alto is recruiting a Senior Engineer for the Water Quality Control Plant. The plant is currently undergoing a significant renovation which includes cutting-edge upgrades. This is an opportunity to work with new technologies and grow into an experienced leader in the field.

During this construction-focused phase of the renovation, the City recognizes that the right candidate for this role will be an engineer who is experienced in partnering with contractors to deliver the city objectives while maintaining a focus on relationship management to achieve longer-term goals.

Normal work hours are 6:30 am - 4 pm Monday - Friday on a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off. Some flexibility in work hours is possible to optimize commute times.

During the construction phase, the majority of work for the Senior Engineer will be on site. However, in 12 - 18 months, the position is expected to become hybrid working 1 - 2 days/week remotely.

The Ideal Candidate:Reports To: Water Quality Control Plant Manager
Supervises: Direct supervision of Project Engineer and Engineer classifications, and involves coordination with contract managers and other engineers, and operations and maintenance staff

Purpose of Classification

Incumbents in this position are responsible for managing the operations and activities of the Regional Water Quality Control Plant. The mission of the Regional Water Quality Control Plant (RWQCP) is to protect San Francisco Bay by cleaning and treating wastewater before it is discharged to San Francisco Bay. Owned and operated by the City of Palo Alto, the Plant treats wastewater for the communities of Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Stanford University and the East Palo Alto Sanitary District. The plant treats roughly 20 million gallons of wastewater per day. Minimum Qualifications:

Sufficient education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the following knowledge and skills, which would typically be acquired through:

BA/BS in an engineering field and six years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Licensing Requirements:

-Valid California Driver's License.

-Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California.
