DEFINITION:
Develops, implements and coordinates programs of training, recruitment and selection for the staff of the Environmental Health organization; plans and coordinates programs to provide specialized training to industries regulated by the Environmental Health Program.

CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS:
The one position allocable to this class works under the administrative and technical direction of the director of special operations. Functions performed include providing administrative and technical direction to subordinates in conducting a continual program of training for the professional and para-professional environmental health staff; maintaining a continuous program of recruiting and selection of Environmental Health Specialists, and counseling with Environmental Health Specialists I on obtaining required State registration. This position develops and coordinates specialized training in environmental health as required by the State or environmental health program management.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Four years' experience as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist, two years of which must have been at the level of Environmental Health Specialist III* or higher.

LICENSE:
Certificate as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist issued by the California State Department of Public Health.**

A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

PHYSICAL CLASS:
Physical Class II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

S pecial Requirement Information:
* Experience at the level of Environmental Health Specialist III in the County of Los Angeles is defined as a registered environmental health specialist who performs specialized environmental health inspections and investigations of complex*** environmental health problems; or provides lead**** supervision to field staff who are enforcing environmental health and consumer protection laws by making inspections, initiating investigations and taking appropriate enforcement action.

CERTIFICATE INFORMATION:
**You MUST submit a legible copy of the required certificate (not the pocket license) as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist issued by the California State Department of Public Health with your application or within 15 calendar days of application submission to HRExams@ph.lacounty.gov .
Failure to submit the required certificate within the given time frame will result in your application being REJECTED as INCOMPLETE.

***Complex environmental health problems are p roblems requiring multi-faceted solutions.
****Lead experience is defined as experience providing technical assistance and training to journey or lower level employees with responsibility for assigning, coordinating, and reviewing the work, ensuring proper work methods are followed.

EXAMINATION CONTENT:

This examination will consist of an evaluation of certification and experience based upon application information, desirable qualifications and supplemental questionnaire at the time of filing weighted 100%.

Applicants must meet the requirements described above at the time of filing and achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be added to the Eligible Register.

Passing this examination and being added to the Eligible Register does not guarantee an offer of employment.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:

The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the examination will be added to the Eligible Register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of eligibility.


NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWELVE (12) MONTHS
