This is a part-time position and incumbents will work an average of 19 hours per week. Work hours and schedules vary according to program and participant needs. Successful candidates must be available to work shifts during various hours of the day, evenings, holidays, and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and one year of experience working in a recreation program, or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the desirable knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession and retention of a valid California Class C Driver's license is required.

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of : Arts & Craft projects, outdoor activities, such as: excursions, event planning, outdoor recreation (rules and regulations as it pertains to basketball, baseball, football and other sports), gardening; chess rules and regulations; basic English usage, writing, math and record keeping; previous experience working with adults in recreation or community activities is highly desirable; basic use of computers, the internet, and Microsoft Word; and Recreation Registration software.

Ability to : work in a team environment or with minimal supervision, work outside in all weather conditions, understand and communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing; operate current office software and educational software applications, work with groups of all ages; handle a variety of emergency situations.

Special Working Conditions: Must be willing and able to work irregular hours, including weekends and evenings.

Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Hmong, Korean, or Samoan is highly desirable.

Part-Time employees accrue paid sick leave at the rate of one (1) hour of paid sick leave for every thirty (30) hours worked up to a maximum accrual of 6 days or 48 hours. Employees are eligible to use 3 days or 24 hours of accrued paid sick leave in a 12-month period.
