What is the Job?
As a Public Health Educator focusing on the Community Cats Program ( CCP ) in Austin, your role is pivotal in managing the community cat population through the Trap-Neuter-Return ( TNR ) program. This involves actively conducting TNR operations by responding to TNR Assistance Requests and coordinating with the Austin Humane Society for surgery availability. You will be responsible for recording the number of cats TNRed, including kittens, injured or sick cats, and those involved in the Shelter-Neuter-Return ( SNR ) process. Additionally, you’ll support and mentor volunteer trappers, lead new volunteer orientations, and manage the inventory and cleanliness of the TNR Housing Unit. Data entry, issuing medical vouchers, and effective communication with the public regarding community cats are also key duties. Participation in community events, building relationships with local organizations, and staying updated with best practices through continuous education are essential to the role.

Pay Range
$25.40 - $30.10

Hours
This position will work 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday.

Evenings and weekends may be required on a regular basis. The shelter is open on some City of Austin official holidays. Other days and hours may be required during an emergency response situation.

• Demonstrated experience with program development with a focus on pet retention.
• Demonstrated ability to secure resources for pet owners from public and private entities.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and with little supervision, but also in support of the team.
• Excellent skills with difficult conversations.
• Bilingual - Spanish.
