Duties and Responsibilities Health educator and Physical Activity Specialist will be responsible for supporting the Project Coordinator in the management, planning and execution of the program deliverables, reporting, supervising staff and coordinating with decision makers partners, and community members. Current California driver’s license and appropriate insurance coverage required. Will drive throughout the greater LA area and occasionally the Antelope Valley
Health Educator Overview The Health Educator will focus on promoting Nutrition Education and Physical Activity within the community.
Job Responsibilities - Education and Outreach: Develop and deliver educational programs and workshops on nutrition topics for various audiences, including schools, community centers, and healthcare facilities.
- Assessment: Evaluate the nutritional needs of individuals or groups through assessments and surveys.
- Resource Development: Create and distribute informational materials, such as brochures, handouts, and online content, to promote healthy eating.
- Collaboration: Work with healthcare professionals, schools, and community organizations to implement nutrition initiatives and programs.
Physical Activity Overview This role involves leading physical activity classes to participants in classroom and public settings. Certification in Zumba and other similar activities will be provided by the employer. The Physical Activity Specialist is responsible for designing and implementing physical activity classes that promote health and wellness within the community or organizations. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to create engaging and effective programs tailored to diverse populations.
Key Responsibilities: - Program Development: Create and implement physical activity programs for various age groups and fitness levels, focusing on inclusivity and accessibility
- Education and Training: Provide educational workshops and training sessions on the benefits of physical activity, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle choices.
- Collaboration: Work with healthcare professionals, educators, and community organizations to promote physical activity initiatives.
- Supervision: Oversee physical activity sessions, ensuring safety and adherence to best practices.
- Promotion: Develop marketing materials and strategies to promote programs and increase community participation.
Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in nutrition science, Health Education or similar degree OR a minimum of two years of experience as a Health Educator in underserved communities.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to present in front of a group
- Fluency in Spanish (speaks, translate, read and write) is required
- Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move 25 pounds occasionally
- Ability to be flexible and work in a changing environment
- Ability to work evenings and weekends is required
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule This position is employed through The University Corporation (TUC).
The anticipated hiring range:
$20 - $25/hour Full Pay range:
$20 - $25/hour Time Base: Full-Time
