Position Description College of Continuing and Professional Education (CCPE) Special Sessions/Campus Partner Programs at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), invites highly qualified, motivated, and well-organized applicants for a pool of part-time teaching appointments.

College of Continuing and Professional Education (CCPE) The College of Continuing and Professional Education (CCPE) extends the University into the community through both self-supported and state-supported, market responsive, educational programs and services which transmit university-based knowledge and skills. The College provides the University with opportunities for faculty development, experimentation in curriculum, and development of new instructional delivery systems. College offerings may be nontraditional in subject matter, format, instructional mode, location and time. Program areas include Winter and Spring Intersessions and other Special Sessions Partner Programs; Open University; Credit and Noncredit Extension; Certificate Programs; and the Osher Institute for Lifelong Learning.

The Position The temporary OTIEC instructor pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed, based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching with/on short notice.
Responsibilities Instructor is expected to have a full understanding of CSUDH OTIEC processes related but not limited to: instructor responsibilities, operations, deadlines, and facilities
Adhere to all CSUDH campus policies and procedures (Faculty Handbook)
Instructor must disclose activities that are considered conflict of interest or potentially be
perceived as a conflict of interest i.e. working for other OTIEC’s
Communicate via email and provide response to CSUDH OTIEC staff inquiries on a timely basis (24 hours)
Provide accurate contact information: address, phone number and email
Maintain an active faculty account to post grades and review enrollment
Maintain schedule of courses assigned by CSUDH OTIEC
Update course content as needed or determined by CSUDH OTIEC staff
Prepare and review course content prior to commencement of course
Review facility instructions prior to training day
Review the syllabus, CSUDH Emergency Procedures, and attendance policy requirement at the beginning of class
Follow instructor checklist for each course assignment
Submit course materials and handouts for printing, at least 30 days prior the course start date
Ensure that all course documentation is compliance (required signatures, dates, test scores, etc.)
Submit course documentation and grades within 72 hours of course end date; off campus courses require immediate FedEx shipping
Provide outstanding customer service
Qualifications Instructor must have the ability to achieve the learning objectives for the respective OTIEC course being delivered. This must include both of the following:
- Demonstration of experience teaching subject materials
- Documented observation and evaluation of the instructor as capable of meeting course objectives
Instructor must maintain current knowledge in the subject material being presented. Outreach trainer courses and the 10- and 30-hour Outreach Training Program classes are not acceptable for maintaining knowledge in subject materials. Maintaining current knowledge includes completion of the following every five years.
Occupational safety and health training course(s) reflecting a minimum of 30 hours. This cannot include training in which the instructor delivers all or part of the course.
Instructor must maintain current knowledge in the subject area of teaching adults. Maintaining current knowledge includes completion of the following every five years.
Training course(s) directly related to teaching adults reflecting a minimum of seven hours. This cannot include training in which the instructor delivers all or part of the course.
Examples include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Adult learning techniques
- Curriculum development
- Classroom technology
- Hands-on techniques
- Handling difficult students
- Conducting courses through video conferencing
Employment Requirement and Additional Information Background Check Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Additional Information Pay is based on student enrollment:
3 to 6 paying students, $50 per hour
7 to 9 paying students; $85 per hour
10+ paying students $100 per hour
Prepare and schedule a three-hour lecture presentation
