ISLS is a unique department that prioritizes creative, interdisciplinary approaches to complex problems and offers a general BA program in Interdisciplinary Studies alongside an elementary teacher education BA program and a sustainability minor. We are looking to expand our faculty offerings in an exciting new direction.

The successful candidate will teach core courses in both BA programs. The candidate’s research and teaching interests will lie in one or more richly interdisciplinary areas such as, but not limited to, Science and Technology Studies, Ethics and AI, Digital Humanities, Knowledge Management, Library and Information Sciences, Geographic Information Science, Systems Theory and Analysis, Behavioral Economics, Cognitive Science, Bioinformatics, Gender, Sexuality, and Intersectionality Studies, Ethnic Studies, Native/Indigenous Studies, Cultural Ecology, Sustainability, Environmental Humanities, Media and Communication Studies, and Art History.

The successful candidate must be willing to teach courses on campus and online as needed. This position is highly collaborative in terms of teaching, curriculum development, and research. The successful applicant will engage with faculty, students, on-campus institutes and centers, and school and community partners in a manner that highlights creativity, collegiality, and innovation.

The normal teaching assignment is 12 units per semester, plus student advisement and committee assignments. Tenure track faculty are typically given a reduced load of 3 units (equivalent to one class assignment) each semester during the first two years of employment. Opportunities for reassigned time for research, coordinator positions, and/or other projects are also available.

In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, participation in assessment of student learning, and service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate may be required to teach on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and/or online and will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she/they is/are housed for recommending tenure and promotion.
