The City of Weatherford’s Police Department is looking to hire a Telecommunications Officers for the Police Department. This position will perform dispatching duties involving handling incoming and outgoing radio transmissions, emergency and non-emergency calls, and complaints. Roles & Responsibilities Include:- Prioritizes and relays information to Officers in the field utilizing a two-way radio.
- Dispatches, monitors, and coordinates radio traffic as needed for the City of Weatherford Police Department, City of Weatherford Fire Department, Weatherford Police Department, Weatherford Utilities, and intercity radio traffic, code enforcement, animal control, Willow Park Police Department, Hudson Oak Police Department, DPS and Life Care EMS.
- Answers 911 telephone calls and text messages; obtains all necessary information to ensure a proper dispatch response.
- Contacts and responds to Officers; provides any requested data, and queries, analyzes or disseminates criminal justice information via TLETS/NLETS and TCIC/NCIC.
- Monitors residential and commercial burglar alarms. Contacts Officer(s) in the field to respond to alarms received.
- Conducts various data entry actions. Completes, analyzes, files, and maintains records for in-house CAD calls for service and TCIC/NCIC.
- Types, files and maintains dispatch logs, records, notices, complaints, and protective order correspondence.
- Answers City Switchboard between the hours of 5pm and 8am, weekends and holidays.
Qualifications• Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent. • Must possess or be able to obtain a Basic Telecommunicator Certification within 180 days of employment. • Must have one year of experience performing clerical duties and dealing with the public. • Possess knowledge of routine and emergency dispatching procedures and practices including radio transmission procedures. • Possess knowledge of the City’s geographic layout including streets and landmarks. • Possess basic knowledge of law enforcement methods, State and Federal regulations, ordinances, and statutes. • Must have a clear criminal history and a valid Driver's License. Driver's license information is required at the time of application.
Special RequirementsCandidates selected for employment will be required to undergo and pass an extensive pre-employment screen. This will include but not limited to, a criminal background check, psychological screen, drug screen, employment and education verification, etc.
