Job DescriptionWage Agency Instructor I - Public Sector - ARFF4 positions to be filledTemporary/Casual PositionCollege Station, TX$25.00 per hour This Instructor is responsible for providing training for the Aircraft Rescue & Fire Fighting Program anywhere in the state of Texas. This position provides instruction and coordinates classes, conferences, and area schools. The Instructor will utilize individual knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to maximize learner success and ensure overall effectiveness of the course instruction. This person will use a variety of media to present course material. The Instructor will also modify course curriculum, when necessary, to meet learner needs. This position reports to the Training Manager.
Required Qualifications: - High School Diploma or GED
- 4 years of experience in training or adult education
Other Requirements: - TCFP Basic Firefighter Certification
- TCFP Instructor Certification or equivalent (obtain within 1 year from date of hire)
- TDHS Emergency Medical Technician
- TCFP ARFF Certification
Preferred Qualifications:- Associates Degree from an Accredited College or University Degree in Fire Science
- 5 years of experience in training or adult education
- 3 years of experience as a TCFP certified fire fighter
- Valid Class "B" driver’s license
Physical Requirements:- Must be able to wear PPE and move objects/training equipment up to 50lbs
- Must be able to operate in low visibility environments
- Must be able to physically operate independently in an immediate danger or health environment (i.e. fire, smoke, etc.) given the appropriate protective equipment, following current standards and techniques while operating common firefighting equipment and appliances
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Ability to communicate in a classroom setting or hands-on training activities
- Must be well organized, able to handle multiple projects concurrently, and be detailed oriented
- Must be able to work well with customers, co-workers, and staff of all levels
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
- Knowledge of basic office software and instructional programs
- Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups
Equipment: - Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone
- Standard and ARFF fire protection equipment, apparatus and clothing
Notifications:- This is a wage position established to accommodate a temporary organizational need. As such, TEEX does not guarantee any set number of hours or length of employment in this role.

Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages: Instruct assigned courses - 55%:- Determines course goals and objectives
- Uses a variety of techniques for presenting course material
- Develops instructional techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles
- Initiates and maintains interactive classroom discussions
- Provides positive reinforcement and motivational incentives
- Monitors learner performance
- Evaluates and assesses instructional effectiveness
Additional support and instruction - 30%:- Schedules, coordinates, and conducts Aircraft Rescue & Fire Fighting Program hand-off, field delivery courses, assigns area schools and other courses as assigned
- Assists with annual schools and/or other special schools/activities as assigned
Course development and review - 10%:- Modifies or develops course content to meet changing needs and objectives, includes visuals and handout materials
- Ensures all changes are in cooperation with the curriculum, certification, and evaluation group
Other - 5%:- Serves as a contact for Texas DEM Regional Liaison Office as directed
- Maintains a clean and neat appearance
- Submits class reports and travel documentation
- Submits weekly reports and all associated documentation on time
- Attends all called meetings unless dismissed by supervisor
- Interacts professionally with external/internal customers
- Performs other duties as assigned
