This position will be located at 1730 East Elm Street, Jefferson City. You’ll be joining the Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ Waste Management Program Engineering Section, where science and policy meet to safely design and operate a Resource and Recovery Act (RCRA) facility. While your primary emphasis will be on the design and operation of solid waste processing facilities and disposal areas; you will also have the opportunity to broaden your knowledge about permitting hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal facilities. You’ll work with a diverse group of team members and stakeholders to ensure waste disposal in Missouri meets regulatory requirements for protection of human health and the environment.
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of federal, state and local regulations, technical/engineering principles and/or practices applicable to assigned projects, and area of expertise.
- Review engineering documents for permitting the construction, operation, closure, post closure, and remediation of solid waste disposal areas and processing facilities as well as other solid waste management projects. Review and recommend approval for changes/modifications to the original permitted design or operations plan.
- Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure construction is in compliance with approved engineering design. Attend on-site meetings to discuss any construction related issues.
- Coordinate all projects, activities and tasks, as necessary and appropriate, with internal and external stakeholders including executive team members, regulated facilities, facility consultants, other department Programs/Divisions, the public, local, state and federal agencies; and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
- Complete projects, assignments and tasks within established timeframes in conformance with the technical requirements of applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidance. Deliver draft work products for supervisory and project team review that are complete, accurate and in as close to final format as possible.
- Attend training, participate in oversight of projects and review technical literature/publications, guidance documents and new regulations and apply new knowledge and skills gained via formal training and
on-the-job experiences to in-depth technical review and administration of assigned projects. - Statewide travel for periods up to one week may be required.
Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination is preferred.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:
- A Bachelor’s degree in an applicable Engineering discipline and 0-4 years of relevant experience.

$58,776-$64,968 per Year
