Position Overview
The Public Health Youth Program Specialist ( YPS ) will identify, recruit, and retain youth and young adult leaders from the 78744 zip code; implement and facilitate youth business meetings; support community needs and strengths assessments. YPS is responsible for managing all of the logistics and functional tasks necessary for meeting the goals and objectives of the assigned projects, and for ensuring that the youth are experiencing high quality and culturally relevant leadership opportunities. The YPS will work to support overall CYD projects and initiatives, prepare appropriate materials, collaborate with community partners, schedule field trips, and develop and lead training for youth leaders and other partners.

Driving Requirement - This position requires a valid Class “C” driver’s license or the ability to acquire one by your hire date.

Preferred Experience: - Experience implementing youth leadership programming
- Experience mentoring youth in out of school time positive youth development activities
- Familiarity with social media tools for organizing and advocacy (i.e. Remind App, Facebook, and Instagram).
- Spanish speaker
- Ability to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned. Lead and monitor work performed by youth work crews. Insure youth crews perform work in accordance with all safety rules. Provide training and document actions taken for youth work crews. Drive vehicles and insure all vehicles have safety/emergency supplies as required. Mentor, guide, and counsel youth in adapting to a professional work environment. Compile data/information for reports. Research information as requested and/or needed. Write informational reports. Answer citizen questions and provide assistance
