Chief Administrative Office, Facilities Division, serves as an essential internal support unit for County departments. The division oversees a diverse range of services, including construction, custodial operations, and the maintenance and repair of County-owned and leased facilities and grounds. With a commitment to efficiency and long-term planning, Facilities strives to design, build, and maintain infrastructure that supports the County's operational needs both now and in the future.
THE OPPORTUNITY Under general supervision, performs both routine and skilled work in the care and maintenance of grounds around County buildings, cemeteries and parks; maintains and repairs ground maintenance equipment.
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to: - Weed, prune, mulch, fertilize, irrigate, and may spray plants, shrubs, and small trees.
- Perform routine maintenance and repair work on irrigation systems; layout and install new sprinkler systems.
- Clear and maintain grounds, paved areas, paths, walkways, and cemetery sites; pick up litter and debris in assigned area.
- Operate a variety of hand and power tools such as hand and riding mowers, edgers, blowers, hedge trimmers, weed eaters, tractors and attachments, chain saws, roto-tillers, rakes, shovels, hoes, brooms, and other maintenance tools.
- Maintain tools and equipment in safe operating condition; perform routine maintenance and repair of a wide variety of grounds keeping equipment.

Where college degrees and/or college course credits are required, degrees and college units must be obtained from an accredited college or university. Courses from non-accredited institutions will not be evaluated for this requirement.
Grounds Maintenance Worker I: Six (6) months of grounds maintenance or gardening experience.
Grounds Maintenance Worker II: In addition to the above, one (1) year of experience in landscape maintenance work at a level equivalent to the County's class of Grounds Maintenance Worker I. College level training in horticulture is desirable.
Other Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must regularly lift and carry equipment weighing up to fifty pounds. Must be willing to work out of doors in all weather conditions.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The County of El Dorado is recruiting applicants for Grounds Maintenance Worker I/II. This recruitment will establish a list for the purpose of filling current and future full time, part time, limited term and extra help vacancies for at least three (3) months. In accordance with Personnel Rules 1103.1 and 1105.1, an extra help or limited term employee may be transitioned into a regular employee if the department in which the employee works has a vacant allocated position for the same classification as held by the extra help or limited term employee and the appointing authority requests such transfer.
