If you have experience working with kids and want to utilize that in a camp setting, the City of Olathe is looking for individuals to work with school age kids at one of five outdoor summer camps held at our beautiful Olathe parks. Come and join the fun this summer at Camp Olathe!
Olathe's 2025 camps run from Tuesday, May 27th through Friday, August 1st. Staff will need to be available for required training and meetings taking place during the month of May, before camp starts (dates to be determined).
Rate of Pay: $16.50/hr
For more details, review the full job details and requirements below.The Assistant Camp Director assists with the design and correct delivery of program activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate for the age and abilities of campers. Additionally, this position aids the Camp Director with management of the overall daily operations of the City's outdoor day camp for elementary-age children.
Key Responsibilities - Coordinate s the work of camp staf f; assign s tasks ; train s on task performance ; schedul es work shifts ; review s and evaluat es performance.
- Assists with and ensures essential tasks for the opening and closing of camp for the summer season are completed ; acts as support when needed to prepare, set up for and clean up after activities; assist s campers with self-selected activities; assist s with preparing, serving, and cleaning up after snacks.
- Demonstrates excellent customer service; c ommunicates effectively with parents, campers, camp staff , and supervisors .
- Follows and assists to ensure staff follow all City, KDHE and camp policies and procedures; follows basic supervision responsibilities ; ensures staff are staying and interacting with campers at all times ; particip ates as needed with campers in group and individual activities ; enforc es safety rules ; interven es when campers are likely to injure themselves or others.
- Stays current and assists to ensure all staff are current on required training as necessary : First Aid and CPR ; child abuse and neglect awareness ; signs and symptoms of illness ; Olathe seasonal employee training.
Qualifications Experience: At least t wo years of experience working with school - age youth is required . Experience in a camp setting is pre ferred .
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required . A b achelor's degree in child development, education, or other closely related field is preferred.
Licenses & Certifications: First A id and CPR certification is required -training provided .
