ABOUT THE POSITION

The Department of Public Works and Marin County Fire Department are currently hiring one (1) full-time Fire Heavy Equipment Mechanic (FHEM) with the right qualifications and experience to provide safe quality repairs on a diverse Fire fleet. The FHEM performs major and minor mechanical repairs and maintenance of fire, rescue and emergency medical response equipment. The FHEM is responsible for overhauling and repairing gasoline and diesel powered fire engines, fire pumps, piping and foam systems, emergency medical and rescue equipment and automobiles and light trucks. As emergency repairs and maintenance may need to take place on the fire line at any time, the FHEM is subject to extended travel from the assigned Woodacre Fire station.

ABOUT YOU

Our Highly Qualified Candidate has experience working as a mechanic in the fire industry. The candidate has personal and professional integrity, is highly organized, possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills, approaches their work with enthusiasm, and demonstrates a strong commitment to customer service. The ideal candidate has vast experience maintaining (servicing and repairing) dump trucks, heavy construction equipment, tractors, trailers, electrical systems found on late model equipment, knowledge of HVAC systems, air brakes systems, basic hydraulic control systems and metal fabrication and various welding skills. In addition, the ideal candidate uses sound independent judgment and is capable of working independently for extended periods of time in remote locations, outdoors in any weather conditions and can work evenings, nights and weekends.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Three years of experience as a journey level mechanic which provides the following knowledge and ability requirements.

Certificates and Licenses: Possession of a valid class A California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving history as obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles. Compliance with federal DOT drug and alcohol policies is required.
