Job Description:

Overview

To ensure the City of Sarasota remains in compliance with evolving environmental regulations, including stormwater management, solid waste, and construction planning for capital projects. The Environmental Services Engineer will provide oversight on environmental compliance, manage NPDES MS4 permit programs, and contribute to sustainable development efforts.

Under the direction of and responsible to the Department Head or designated representative. Usually none, but may provide technical guidance and schedule, assign, monitor and review the work of others.

Physical Requirements

This is light work requiring exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds of force frequently. Work requires considerable physical activity including walking, lifting, reaching, stooping, pulling, grasping, balancing, climbing, kneeling, standing, and crouching. Incumbent is subject to inside and outside activities with no effective protection from weather changes, noise, vibrations, job hazards, and atmospheric conditions. Position requires reaching, fingering, talking, and hearing to accurately perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Position requires visual acuity for reviewing, checking, preparing, and maintaining written and computer files. Manual dexterity to operate standard office, data entry, and word processing equipment is required. Position requires the ability to evaluate development and drainage plans on-stie, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, mitigating flood risks, and safeguarding city interests.

Public Contact

Contacts are an essential component of this position.Frequent contacts are required with developers, contractors, consultants and governmental staff and the public.Contacts with City, county and federal engineering and environmental protection staff are required to coordinate technical and regulatory issues. The role also includes community outreach and stakeholder engagement to promote sustainable development practices and ensure transparency in environmental compliance efforts.
