SENIOR LAND SURVEYOR

In addition to performance-based merit increases, this position is scheduled to receive salary range increases on the following dates:
Effective June 27, 2025 - 4.00% increase

Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization.

This recruitment is being held to establish an eligible list to fill current and future Senior Land Surveyor positions throughout the County of Orange. The eligible list may also be used to fill similar vacancies in other agencies or to fill lower-level classifications within the same occupational series.

OC Public Works provides services on a regional basis to unincorporated areas, to cities, and to other County agencies and departments. The primary mission of the department is to protect and enrich the community through efficient delivery and maintenance of public works infrastructure, planning, and development services. THE OPPORTUNITY

OC Public Works has an opportunity for a Senior Land Surveyor within the Field Services Unit. Senior Land Surveyors plan, organize and direct complex surveying work. This position performs a full range of supervisory activities and serves as the project lead directing large survey projects or multiple small projects through subordinate Survey III's. This position takes place primarily within an office setting, but on occasions the incumbent will report to the field.

The range of activities include, but are not limited to, the orchestration of field survey crews, office staff, management of consultants, budget analysis, proposal composition, and periodic evaluations of staff.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES

The ideal candidate will possess 7 years of direct and progressive experience in surveying, as well as the experience, skill and demonstrated ability to effectively manage resources, personnel, schedule and budget on a wide variety of complex projects.

In addition to the requirements listed under the minimum qualifications, the successful candidate must also possess the following core competencies:

LICENSE REQUIREMENT

Possession of a valid Land Surveyor's License or valid Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer authorized to practice surveying issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.

A California driver license, Class C, is required by date of appointment.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS

Human Resource Services screens all application materials for minimum and desirable qualifications. After screening, candidates who meet the minimum and desirable qualifications will be referred to the next step in the recruitment process. All candidates will be notified via email of their status in the process.

Structured Oral Interview (Weighted 100%): Candidates will be interviewed and rated by a qualification panel of job knowledge experts. Each candidate's rating will be based on responses to a series of structured questions designed to elicit the candidate's qualifications for the job. Only the most successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list.

Based on the Department's needs, the selection procedures listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedure.

Eligible List
Once the assessment has been completed, Human Resource Services will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
