SENIOR ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
Description
DESCRIPTIONApplications are available online beginning Friday, March 15, 2024, through 4:30 pm, Friday, December 27, 2024. (EXTENDED) EXAMPLES OF DUTIESFormulates and coordinates work assignments and reviews plans, design estimates, survey and inspection reports of electrical facilities; supervises, trains and evaluates assigned professional and technical staff; supervises the preparation of specifications, the compilation of estimates and contract terms from an engineering standpoint; provides expert electrical engineering and operational input on large-scale planning, design, and construction; performs responsible supervisory and specialized professional work in electrical engineering; designs, develops, and evaluates interior and exterior electrical power distribution systems including lighting, fire detection and suppression, communication, security, mechanical control, railroad signalization, fiber optic infrastructure systems, local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN), container crane power and control systems, crane automatic transition systems, reefer outlet power and remote monitoring systems, and container terminal switchgear; develops and evaluates task requirements and technical standards for work to be performed by outside consultants; provides expert advice of electrical systems for ship to shore design and operation for ships, container terminals, and cruise ship terminals; coordinates electrical service requirements with utility companies such as SCE and LADWP; inspects both in-progress and completed work; applies electrical codes and standards to the design of city electrical facilities; performs special studies, prepares comprehensive reports, and recommends energy-saving improvements; and performs other related duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS TO FILE Candidates must meet the following to qualify: Current registration as a Professional Electrical Engineer in the State of California
(proof required)*;
AND Five (5) years paid, full-time equivalent experience gained after graduating as an Electrical Engineer or after passing the E.I.T. examination
(proof required)*, which includes three years in a position requiring registration as an Electrical Engineer and responsible supervision of professional-level technical personnel involved in electrical design and construction.
*Proof of required documents, such as degree or transcripts, must be uploaded to the online application at the time of filing. Any proofs submitted must contain either the applicant's name or other identifying characteristics on the form. Degrees must indicate the field of study and transcripts must indicate a field of study and degree conferred date. Candidates who possess degrees from colleges or universities outside the United States must attach proof of educational equivalence at the time of filing. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Knowledge of principles and practices of electrical engineering and design;
- Knowledge of electrical codes and standards for the design of electrical facilities;
- Knowledge of principles and practices of employee supervision including selection, training, performance evaluation, discipline, and labor laws;
- Ability to prepare correspondence and reports.
A valid driver's license and a current DMV record must be submitted to the hiring department at the time of selection.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in Electrical Engineering; Lighting Certification (LC) from the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professionals (NCQLP) ; Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification issued by the Project Management Institute; Electrical engineering experience related to marine terminal operations and/or emission reductions; and Experience with Primavera, MS Project, or other scheduling programs.

Screening of applicants will be conducted on the basis of application and required supplemental application submitted. This selection procedure will be conducted using a continuous non-competitive process, which means applications are evaluated solely on training, experience, education, or certification. All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be placed on an eligible list. Applicants receiving Veteran’s Credit will be placed on the eligible list first and then in the order in which applications were filed.
This is a continuous eligible list, which means eligible lists may be established periodically and may expire six months from their effective date. Applicants may apply only once during a four-month period.
Applications received by Friday, March 29, 2024, will be placed on the examination process for Test #01.
