Requirements

Education and Experience : Bachelor’s Degree or higher, in Planning, Environmental Science, Sustainability or a related field and three (3) years of work experience in planning, environmental services, energy, climate change, or a related field.

Licenses and Certificates: Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state by time of appointment.

General Purpose

Provide technical expertise and support for El Paso’s various climate and sustainability programs, projects, and policy issues.

Typical Duties

Support the implementation of the City’s Climate Action Plan. Involves: Participates in the development and coordination of the City’s local sustainability strategies, working closely with staff and management in a variety of roles around all aspects of climate and sustainability implementation. Develops mechanisms to ensure that the City’s team is fully engaged in implementation of sustainability strategies and that their programs are fully aligned with those strategies. Ensures the implementation of the City’s sustainability strategies to align with regional initiatives and the community at large.

Develops baseline assessments of sustainability policies and practices. Involves: Monitors and tracks for progress in achieving strategies for climate change and sustainability. Provides recommendations for policy and program improvements. Provides climate and sustainability expertise, acting as a technical resource for city staff and provides input on climate and sustainability-related topics for city plans, programs, and initiatives. Researches and completes grant applications for funding related to climate action projects.

Develops and coordinates collaborative partnerships with government, non-profit and community groups in support of sustainable initiatives. Involves: Assesses internal and external communications opportunities and solutions, and develops outreach strategies to engage staff and the public in participating in sustainability strategy updates and implementation. Educate staff and community members regarding the design, implementation, and process changes related to climate change and sustainability. Plans and organizes community events, conducts outreach to residents, schools, and businesses and coordinates educational programs and materials. Develops staff reports and presentations regarding findings, program recommendations and program accomplishments, as needed. Attends various meetings, committees, and conferences related to program goals and objectives, and represents the City on sustainable and environmental interests at local, regional, and state levels.
