Description

Our Assistant City Attorney III, Water or Senior Assistant City Attorney, Water provides legal counsel to the City on water law issues, primarily through representation of the Water Division of the City’s Water & Power Department. Responsibilities include performing legal research, writing and reviewing contracts, advising on water acquisition and strategizing on civil and water court litigation with outside counsel, drafting ordinances and resolutions, preparing legal documents relating to water acquisition and providing legal advice on other miscellaneous municipal law items. Provides legal
representation and advice to the City, City Council, City boards and commissions, and City staff; and to perform such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the City Attorney.

The salary range for this position is $144,974 - $202,963 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.

Essential Functions- Senior Assistant City Attorney, Water (in addition to Essential Functions listed above): May perform supervisory functions within the City Attorney's Office.

Qualifications

Required Education: Law degree from an ABA-accredited U.S. law school

Required Experience (Assistant City Attorney III, Water) : 6 years of experience in general municipal law and/or related areas such as land use, real estate, sales and use tax, elections, civil litigation, and/or other local government law. Must have 4 years experience in water law.

Required Experience (Senior Assistant City Attorney, Water) : 7 years of experience in general municipal law and/or related areas such as land use, real estate, sales and use tax, elections, civil litigation, and/or other local government law. Must have 5 years experience in water law.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Senior Assistant City Attorney, Water (in addition to Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities listed above): Ability to effectively supervise and manage employees

Physical Demands: Frequent minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal.

Working Environment: Frequent exposure to routine office noise and equipment. Occasional exposure to hazards typically found in general office environments where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident.
