PARKS DIVISION
The El Dorado County Parks Division is responsible for private boater education and monitoring and regulating commercial activity on the South Fork of the American River. The County's goals are to preserve the river corridor's environmental resources; protect the area's rural character; reduce conflicts between residents and boaters; and maintain a quality whitewater boating experience.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Under general supervision, manages commercial and non-commercial whitewater recreation to protect the safety, health, and welfare of river users and to protect the riparian environment and riparian landowners and helps implement requirements as outlined by the County’s River Management Plan; and performs related work as required.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

An ideal candidate will have experience and the ability to operate a whitewater craft (such as hard-shell kayak, stand up paddle board, or raft) at a minimum of Class III level; the skills and knowledge of whitewater guiding, safety practices, and boater responsibility code; and the ability to collect data and maintain records. The candidate is expected to be a good communicator and work well the public, be a team player, and be adaptive and versatile to a dynamic work environment.
Human Resources will assess your application to determine if you are minimally qualified using the following recommendations:
Six (6) months of experience in any of the following areas: park guiding, whitewater boating, recreation, outdoor education, tourism, volunteer work through community-based organizations or National/State Service programs, or participation in/coaching athletic teams (high school, college, club, or recreational).

OR

Possess a valid Swift Water Rescue Training certification, completion of a whitewater guide school within the last two years, or American Canoe Association (ACA) Instructor certification.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The County of El Dorado is recruiting applicants for River Instructor - Extra Help. This recruitment will establish a list for the purpose of filling current and future extra help vacancies for at least three (3) months. In accordance with Personnel Rules 1103.1 and 1105.1, an extra help or limited term employee may be transitioned into a regular employee if the department in which the employee works has a vacant allocated position for the same classification as held by the extra help or limited term employee and the appointing authority requests such transfer.
