The District Utility Coordinator is responsible for coordination with utility companies and municipalities for any required utility adjustments or relocations on current and future projects. Reviews items for conformance to plans, specifications, special provisions, and terms of agreement. Responsibilities are performed under general supervision.
- Assist the District Utility Engineer (DUE) in notifying/meeting with utility companies and municipalities on current future projects. This includes working with the utility companies during the design and construction stages of a project to coordinate the adjustment or relocation of their facilities based on the project work schedule.
- Assists in the preparation of reimbursement utility agreements and job special provisions; reviews and approves utility plans of adjustment; revies cost estimates; approves utility final invoices of payment.
- Coordinates with Design and utility companies to ensure that utility information is correctly shown on the plans. Identify potential conflicts between existing facilities and proposed improvements.
- Assist permit inspectors with utility issues related to permit work on MoDOT ROW; reviews and approves necessary utility permit application for compliance with policy; submits necessary documentation for policy variance to District Utility Engineer and District Design Engineer approval.
- Review of developer, utility company and municipal driven projects for impacts to existing utility facilities and future projects.
- Review of utilities on parcels considered for sale of excess of right of way.
- Perform field checks of existing utility facilities or recently adjusted and/or relocated facilities with Design/Construction; coordinate with Construction to resolve any issues during construction.

- Perform field visits with utility companies or municipalities to discuss impacts to their facilities.
- Assists with estimating utility relocation expense expenses for proposed project for internal budgeting and planning.
- Work with Design/Construction to establish electrical service for new or relocated power supply assemblies on signal, lighting, and ITS projects.
- Performs other responsibilities as required or assigned.
- Coordinates and performs construction inspections verifying that contractors' activities are in compliance with contracts, specifications, and engineering principles.
- Performs duties of inspector in charge of routine construction items, such as asphaltic or portland cement concrete plants, asphaltic or concrete paving, including grading and base, small bridges, concrete box and pipe culverts; inspects general or special items, such as utility adjustments, signing, traffic signals and lighting.
- Performs measurements, computations, or other work in preparing final plans, change orders, contractor payment estimates, and engineering costs.
- Maintains required construction documentation, records and files; prepares progress and other reports, keeps supervisor fully informed as to activities or unusual conditions on the job.
- Provides field checks for contractor surveying operations; serves as party chief on routine layout and staking; serves as instrument operator on staking of large bridges, other critical structures, or complex interchanges.
- Job requires moderate physical activity.
- Job requires exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and/or adverse or otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment.
- Job may require operation of vehicles to plow snow and spread ice control materials.
Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university curriculum.
- Certification to operate nuclear gauges may be required.
- Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination.
- Waiver of minimum requirement may be considered.
