The Department of Public Works is responsible for delivering capital improvement projects for a wide variety of City facilities and infrastructure, maintaining City facilities and fleet assets, facilitating, and regulating development activities, radio communications, and providing animal care and services. Position DutiesSalary range(s) for this classification is $73,098.48 - $89,063.52 annually. This salary range(s) includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.
The Public Works Department is seeking a Desktop Support Technician I to support the City’s technology requirements. As a Desktop Support Technician, you will also need to have excellent customer service skills, be able to work well with both technical and non-technical staff, and be able to work in a dynamic, high packed environment with a mixture of operational tasks and project assignments. This position is 100% on-site M-F, 8hrs a day; remote work is not available currently.
Typical duties including but not limited to:
- Troubleshoot computers, mobile endpoints, printer configurations, and network connectivity issues.
- Identifies, diagnoses, and resolves or escalates issues to appropriate technical teams as necessary.
- Installs/monitors software, upgrades, and supports applications, and ensures security configurations are applied.
- Configures computer and mobile endpoint operating systems.
- Makes computers accessible to the network by resolving routine computer connectivity problems.
- Creates new user accounts or mailboxes and resolves problems with existing accounts.
- Adds, deletes, and modifies permissions to shared drives.
- Provides guidance and troubleshooting related to Office 365 applications.
- Responds to and resolves helpdesk tickets in a timely and courteous manner.
- Assists with the management and implementation of projects
Minimum QualificationsNetwork Technician I: Education:- Completion of high school or equivalent (General Education Development [GED] Test or California Proficiency Certificate) AND six (6) months of college-level coursework equivalent to 15 semester/22 quarter units or vocational training or technology technician apprenticeship, both covering computer- related work such as computer and mobile endpoints repair, technical troubleshooting, application support, or other related duties.
Experience: Acceptable Substitutions: - Six (6) months of qualifying experience may substitute for the college-level education.
Licenses/Certifications: - Possession of a valid State of California driver’s license.

In an office environment, possess ability to:
- Operate, access, enter, and retrieve data using standard office equipment, including but not limited to a computers or tablets;
- Read printed and digital materials;
- Communicate in person, through chat, email, and over the telephone;
- Lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 25 pounds, or heavier weights, in all cases with the use of proper equipment;
- Move between/within work areas, including but not limited to sitting, walking, and standing on various surfaces, turning, bending, grasping, and making repetitive hand movements;
- Be exposed to moderate noise levels and work within controlled/uncontrolled temperature conditions;
- Maintain professional demeanor during interactions with staff, customers, and the public.
