POLICE INVESTIGATOR (NON-CAREER)

DESCRIPTIONThe Long Beach Police Department is accepting applications for non-career Police Investigators. This position is a non-sworn, at-will, part-time position utilized throughout various divisions within the Police Department. Current vacancies will report to the chain of command within the Collaborative Response Division
The Long Beach Police Department is the second largest municipal police agency in Los Angeles County and provides law enforcement services to the 7th largest city in the State of California. Non-Career employees are allowed a maximum of 1,600 work hours available over a 12-month period, and are considered temporary, at-will employees who are not typically eligible for benefits. However, non-career employees may qualify for health coverage and sick leave accruals subject to applicable federal and state provisions. EXAMPLES OF DUTIESThis position will: - Conduct interviews of employers, co-workers, neighbors, law enforcement officials; military personnel, members of candidate's family and personal reference.
- Manage a variety of investigations to include administrative or employment background.
- Research, assemble, analyze and interpret information from a variety of sources.
- Review local, state, and federal criminal databases.
- Compile and prepare thorough and objective investigative reports.
- Assist with telephonic inquires and complaints, as necessary.
- Compile statistics.
- Perform other duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS TO FILEMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:- Five (5) years of experience as a peace officer.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs, including Word and Excel.
- Valid California Driver's license is required and must be maintained through the course of employment.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work with staff and management at all levels of the Department and City.
- Self-motivated with excellent customer service skills and a positive attitude.
- Ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Possession of a California POST Background Investigator Core Course Certificate is desirable.
- Experience in background investigations for employment, internal affairs investigations, in-depth investigations of criminal matters or comprehensive investigations of traffic-related incidents is desired.
