We’ve added new custodial positions to our team to support our public library buildings.

Are you passionate about keeping spaces clean and welcoming? Do you enjoy making a difference in your community by ensuring public areas shine? The City of Olathe is looking for dedicated Custodians who take pride in their work and enjoy interacting with the public.

About the Role: As a Custodian with the City of Olathe, your focus will be on maintaining clean and welcoming spaces for staff and visitors. While deep cleaning is handled by an external team overnight, our in-house custodians ensure everything continues to look great throughout the day by wiping surfaces, keeping spaces tidy, and cleaning up the occasional spill or other emergency, in a variety of spaces, from public meeting areas to collaborative workspaces, offices, and more. You’ll also spend time preparing for and cleaning up after special events. This includes setting up and taking down chairs, tables, and other equipment or materials to ensure our venue spaces meet special event requirements.

Starting pay for this position is $18.00 to $19.00/hour depending on experience.

Candidates selected for these positions must pass a criminal background check , driving record review , drug screen , and job-related physical .

Work schedule:

Shift 1

Tuesday - Thursday: 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM
Friday: 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (with 1 hour lunch)
Saturday: 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM
Days off are Sunday and Monday

Shift 2

Sunday - Thursday:12:00 PM to 8:30 PM
Days off are Friday and Saturday

The Custodian I provides skilled custodial services that support the operational nature of the assigned facilities. They are responsible for cleaning and sanitizing buildings and performing set-up and tear down activities to support various events in addition to light building maintenance such as changing light bulbs, hanging pictures or assisting others in performing such duties. The Custodian I is part of a two level career progression of Custodian I - II.

Key Responsibilities


Qualifications

Experience: Previous custodial experience preferred.

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Relevant experience may be substituted for education.

Licenses & Certifications: A valid driver’s license and favorable driving record are required.

Language: Must be proficient in reading and speaking basic English language in order to communicate effectively and maintain professional relationships with a diverse range of people and read chemical labels and other materials.

Environmental or Physical Demands: This work requires the ability to stand, walk, lift and carry, and use both hands and legs repetitively. The Custodian is required to operate custodial equipment, small tools, and vehicles, and work in various environments, both indoors and outdoors, and may be exposed to sanitary waste. The work involves manual dexterity, frequent bending, stooping, reaching, crawling, and kneeling, as well as the ability to perform minor mechanical tasks. Employees may drive or ride from site to site frequently throughout the day.
