The Tacoma Power Generation Natural Resources Team is growing!We are currently looking to fill our Cowlitz Services Field Supervisor______________________________________________________________________________
Tacoma Power is accepting applications for a Natural Resources Field Supervisor at their Cowlitz location. The Natural Resources Field Supervisor is responsible for the coordination and oversight of technicians and resources stationed at the Cowlitz Hydro project within the Services and Delivery workgroup. In this role you will work on priority projects and operational needs within Natural Resources providing support to our programs including fish facilities, wildlife and lands, science and research, water resources, data analytics, and report writing.
This role is dedicated to field work and in-person crew lead activities along with scheduling; coordinating with project managers and stakeholders; developing processes to create efficiencies; and supervisory, mentorship development and training of staff. This position is field and office based with significant time spent in both environments.
Responsibilities include:
- S upervise a unit of two permanent Natural Resources Technicians as well as seasonal staff. Plan, schedule and supervise work; provide opportunities for staff to learn and grow; perform work inspection and quality assurance; coach and counsel staff; conduct performance evaluations; ensure proper training and adherence to safety requirements; and recommend and implement hiring and discipline procedures .
- Serve as an expert on the Natural Resources team in guiding and providing front line field supervision by being an expert and field technician, leading crews and providing opportunities for staff to learn and grow from their hands on leadership.
- Collaborate with managers and Project Managers in Natural Resources to ensure that staff and resources are scheduled through resource management practices and processes that ensure efficiency and effectiveness for staff and the organization.
- Collaborate with Cushman Services Field Supervisor on scheduling resources and planning projects.
- Collaborate with external partners on project scheduling, data collection, and data management.
- Under guidance and in collaboration with the Natural Resources Service s Manager, develop systems to communicate project and operational priorities and resource constraints early so that this information can be used by managers to make informed decisions.
- Administer delegated portions of the budget related to field operations and assigned team; provide input into budgeting process.
- Work with Natural Resources Project Managers and training partners to identify areas that technicians require training and development prior to priority projects and ensure training and development is available.
- Lead and i mplement safety practices including swift wat er standard operation procedures
Qualifications Minimum Education* High School Diploma or GED
Minimum Experience* 5 years of experience with wildlife, forestry, aquatic habitats, and/or Pacific Northwest Salmon ecology and recovery practices, including 2 years prior at senior, lead and/or supervisory level
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements First Aid and CPR certification within the first 6 months of employment
Washington State Driver's License
*Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education
Knowledge & Skills- Experience supervising staff, leading crews, and/or managing projects
- Strong communication skills including verbal, written, and active listening
- Experience conducting environmental field work such as fisheries surveys, wildlife surveys, or habitat assessments
- Familiarity with Pacific Northwest salmon ecology
- Experience collecting and managing accurate and comprehensive datasets
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to be adaptable and work efficiently across a large organization with many moving parts
This position will require:
- Working in an outdoor environment during all seasons and variable weather conditions
- Heavy lifting, extensive walking, and climbing in rough terrain
- Working in rugged environments such as streams and rivers, on boats, and in upland areas
- Remaining in a stationary position for 90% of the time with occasional movement to access office files, machinery and similar productivity tools (standing, sitting, walking).
- Constant operation of a computer, as well as use of a calculator, printer and similar office tools (fingering, grasping, feeling, repetitive motions.
- Communication and the exchange of information with others (hearing, seeing, talking.
- Occasionally exerting up to 10 pounds of force to move, transport or position objects (sedentary work).
Work may also occasionally require:
- Movement around the work place to pick up objects (stooping, walking, reaching).
- Traversing, ascending or descending stairs, sloped terrain, or similar environments (climbing, balancing, walking).
- Exerting up to 20 pounds of force to move, transport or position objects (light work).

Direct Deposit: Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule by direct deposit.
