Job Summary

Under direct supervision of the Department Chair, this position is the primary administrative support position in the office and provides full-scope administrative support/assistance to the department in the areas of academic personnel, administrative reporting and budget, course enrollment, class scheduling, graduate admissions, overall department operations, and provides work direction for the student assistant. This position also provides a contact point and information source for students and others who interact with the Statistics Department. This position provides advice to the department chair in implementation of personnel, class scheduling, budget, office assignments and office policies. This position also works closely with chairs of standing committees, tenure-track and lecturer search committees, professional leave committees, department peer review committees, as well as the department scheduler, faculty advisors, graduate coordinator, and statistics club student leadership.

This position provides guidance and review to ensure the department’s adherence to department, college, and university guidelines for all administrative procedures. The department chair serves an elected three-year term, requiring that this position provide continuity in processes to a variety of policies and procedures. This position is often the only person in the department with experience and knowledge of precedence and procedure and must be able to work independently under general supervision.

Department Summary

The Statistics Department is an academic department within the College of Science and Mathematics offering an extensive curriculum to support a Bachelor’s of Science (B.S.) degree in Statistics, multiple minor programs (Statistics, Actuarial Preparation, and Cross Disciplinary Studies in Data Science), and a Master’s program in Statistics. The Statistics BS program currently has approximately 200 undergraduate majors and 80 students minoring in Statistics, 10 in Actuarial Preparation, and 30 in Data Science. The Master’s program is expected to serve 15-20 students annually. The Department also offers a large number of introductory and mid-level service courses to non-majors across the university to meet both General Education and breadth requirements as well as major-specific support for students. In sum, the department offers around 270 courses delivering 30,000 student credit units (SCUs) annually. In addition to supporting the campus educational mission, the department also provides a statistical consulting service staffed by a pair of quarterly rotating faculty and graduate students. The Department is comprised of 22 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 6 lecturers with essentially full-time teaching loads, 4-6 part-time lecturers, one Administrative Support Coordinator, one student assistant (office), and approximately 30-45 instructional student assistants.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $50,962 - $66,534 annually

Classification Range: $48,696 - $79,836 annually
