The Position

Contra Costa County is looking to fill an exciting opportunity for a Chief of Administrative Services I - Exempt. While Chief of Administrative Services I - Exempt is a county-wide position, there is currently one (1) vacancy in the Department of Child Support Services (DCSS).

DCSS has received multiple program awards for their hard work and outstanding achievements within the program and are looking for someone who will continue this standard of excellence on our team. The department supports its customers so that children can receive the emotional and financial support they need to thrive. DCSS assists families by establishing, collecting, and distributing child and medical support for minors. Our work is an important part of California’s effort to nurture and protect children and to help them and their families achieve self-sufficiency. This position is exempted from the merit system and will not follow regular County recruitment and selection procedures. Not all applicants will be invited to participate in the evaluation and interview process.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business or public administration, public policy, finance, organizational development, social or behavioral sciences, or a closely related field.

Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible full-time experience in a managerial, administrative, or staff capacity performing administrative, budgetary, or personnel analyses.

Substitutions:
Experience Substitution: Four (4) years of progressively responsible full-time professional level experience with Contra Costa County, in a managerial, administrative, or staff capacity performing administrative, budgetary, or personnel analyses may substitute for the required experience.

OR

Experience Substitution: Possession of a master's degree in business or public administration, public policy, finance, organizational development, social or behavioral sciences, or closely related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

Education Substitution: One (1) additional year of qualifying experience may be substituted for the required academic major.

CONVICTION HISTORY

After you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you have received a conditional job offer. If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances. DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
