Position Summary:
Identifies sources of funds to pay for the patient's medical treatment. This position determines a patient's eligibility for various state, federal and/or other financial assistance programs and negotiates payment commitments by patients who do not qualify for financial assistance and who do not have insurance.

Job Requirement

Education/Experience:
Equivalent to high school graduation and two (2) years of experience as a community outreach worker, eligibility worker within a governmental agency or hospital setting, navigator, enrollment assister, certified application counselor or social services representative.

Licensing/Certification Requirements:
None

Additional and/or Preferred Position Requirements

- Proficiency with NOMADS
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in social security referrals
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in completing presumptive eligibility applications NOTE: The successful candidate must be able to submit to fingerprint process as the NV DWSS mandates that anyone who has access to the NOMAD system must submit fingerprints.



Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements

Knowledge of:
Federal, state, and county medical financial assistance programs; effective interviewing techniques; medical terminology; common business and collection practices; department and hospital safety practices and procedures; patient rights; infection control policies and procedures; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.
Skill in:
Performing arithmetic calculations; organizing and prioritizing work; using computers and related software applications to complete reports and other documentation; maintaining detailed case files; applying effective interviewing techniques; contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team work unit goals; communicating effectively with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties. Efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, stamina to remain seated for long periods of time, vision to read printed materials and a VDT screen, and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or an eligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
