Duties Description

The selected candidate will work on the Regional Road Crew under the direction of the Road Crew Maintenance Supervisor and the Regional Maintenance Supervisor. The primary work for this position will involve:
• Safely operate garbage trucks, backhoes, loaders, skid steers, rollers, graders, and other heavy equipment as required for road maintenance and repair tasks.
• Drive truck/trailer combinations to transport heavy equipment to and from job sites, ensuring proper handling and safety protocols.
• Operate equipment for mowing and site clearing in designated areas.
• Perform medium to heavy manual labor, including lifting, carrying, and setting up materials as part of daily operational duties.
• Conduct basic maintenance on vehicles and equipment, inspecting machinery for safety and operational readiness.
• Understand and carry out instructions, including written instructions.
• Applying working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment associated with road maintenance to ensure proper operation and upkeep.
• Ensuring compliance with safety standards, procedures, and applicable codes and regulations related to road maintenance.

Additional Comments

OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Work shift may vary as necessary but will commonly be 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., or 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. during the winter months, and 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during summer months.
• Work schedule will include weekends, weekdays, nights, and holidays when necessary.
• Must be willing to work early and late shifts to accommodate a winter plowing schedule.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must possess or obtain a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License* with air brake endorsement that allows the candidate to legally operate commercial vehicles in New York State and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be capable of operating a truck/trailer combination.
• Must possess working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment associated with road maintenance, as well as working knowledge of safety standards and procedures and applicable codes and regulations associated with road maintenance.

*Under the provision of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The incumbent is required to participate in pre-employment, random, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.
