This position allows for up to 3 days of remote work per week depending on office operational needs, including, but not limited to, the professional development of the intern.
About the OfficeThe State Bar Court of California adjudicates attorney disciplinary and regulatory matters and makes recommendations to the Supreme Court concerning the appropriate discipline in attorney disciplinary matters. As the appellate body of the State Bar Court, the Review Department performs plenary and interlocutory review of cases heard by the court's trial-level Hearing Department, and issues opinions and recommendations for consideration by the Supreme Court.

About the RoleThe Review Department Judicial Internship offers an excellent opportunity for a law student to gain hands-on experience in the appellate adjudication and administration of cases within California's attorney disciplinary/regulatory system. This internship will particularly benefit students interested in professional responsibility and legal ethics, appellate law, court procedure, attorney discipline, and public practice.
Position SummaryState Bar Court is looking to recruit a
current law student to work in the Los Angeles Office. The Legal intern will be available to work full-time for 10 weeks from approximately May/June 2025 through August 2025.
The Ideal Candidate - Currently enrolled in, or completion of, a professional responsibility course at the time of the internship.
- Excellent research and writing ability.
- Commitment to the State Bar's values of clarity, excellence, respect, and a growth mindset.
- Candidate must reside in California and be able to report to the Los Angeles office 2-3 times per week.
Application Requirements In addition to completing the State Bar application, attach your resume, a letter of interest, and a writing sample.
- The resume must include three references.
- The letter of interest should provide information about why you are interested in the role, and highlight the knowledge, skills, and abilities that you bring to the role. The letter of interest should be limited to one page.
- The writing sample should not exceed 10 pages.

Definition Under the general supervision of State Bar Court Review Department attorneys, work on assignments to gain experience with rules, statutes, case law, and procedures applied by the State Bar Court's appellate department in the determination of discipline and regulatory cases.
Examples of Essential Duties - Research various areas of procedural and substantive law.
- Assist review judges in the development of opinions, including legal research involving the California Rules of Professional Conduct, the State Bar Act, and the California Rules of Court.
- Draft proposed orders in various matters.
- Working with the authoring judge, assist in drafting opinions for disciplinary and regulatory matters on review.
