Pay Range: $28.84/hr. - $37.49/hr.

The City of Fort Worth Municipal Court Administration Division is seeking a Substitute Hearing Officer.
THE SUBSTITUTE HEARING OFFICER WILL BE CALLED AS NEEDED , POSSIBLY WITH LITTLE ADVANCE NOTICE, TO FUNCTION IN THE ABSENCE OF THE FULL-TIME HEARING OFFICER. SELECTED CANDIDATES MAY WORK UP TO 19 HOURS PER WEEK (USUALLY AVERAGING 100 HOURS ANNUALLY). THE SUBSTITUTE HEARING OFFICER WILL WORK ON SITE AT THE A.D. MARSHALL PUBLIC SAFETY AND COURTS BUILDING IN FORT WORTH. Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in criminal justice, pre-law, public administration or a related field
- two years of experience in conflict resolution or progressively responsible code enforcement.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in conducting administrative hearings
- Strong communication (written and verbal)
- Conflict resolution skills
The job responsibilities include: - Hear and resolve various administrative appeals as provided in the City Code, including, but not limited to
- Parking citations
- Junked vehicle removals
- Solid waste violations
- Game room permits
- Multifamily dwelling complex registrations
- Vehicle immobilizations.
- Review parking citations and other paperwork to ensure accuracy and completeness
Working Conditions Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking and repetitive motions.
Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions in the last 10 years, Class A Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication in the last 10 years, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and ALL Family Violence Convictions regardless of class.
Physical Demand Light Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work.
