Position Overview:
Under general direction, the Austin Water Electrical Supervisor supervises and coordinates the daily activities of Austin Water Industrial Utility Electricians involved in construction, repair, installation, testing, calibration, maintenance, or removal of utility high and low voltage substation and treatment-related electrical process control systems within the Austin Water Utility. Coordinate work with utility customers such as water and wastewater treatment, collection and distribution, facility engineering and outside contractors.

Driving Requirement:
This position requires a Valid Texas Class C Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
This position will be required to travel and report to other Austin Water worksites.

Effective October 1, 2014, all Austin Water worksite locations are tobacco-free. Use of tobacco products and/or e-cigarettes is not permitted on any AW worksite - including construction sites, parking lot, garage or in any personal vehicle located on the premises.
Pay Range
$42.26 - $54.94
Hours
Monday through Friday; 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

This position may require you to work outside of normal operating hours, including after-hour work, nights, weekends, bad weather events, and emergency responses.

Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

Assigns, organizes, and monitors task completion for workgroup Ensures compliance with National Electric Code, National Electric Safety Code, and all pertinent environmental restrictions and regulations, Interprets, explains, and enforces City policies, procedures, building codes, Utility specifications, and ordinances. Communicates with schedulers and project managers regarding projects Monitors safety issues for work group. Supervises the repair, installation, maintenance, testing, calibration, diagnostic analysis, or removal of utility substation equipment including substation transformers, switchgears, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, motor operators, bus work, substation batteries, chargers, control cabinets and process equipment including intake and distribution pumps, blowers, chemical treatment process equipment, power and lighting related to the facilities. Coaches and develops assigned staff using continuous learning and self-improvement techniques. Authorizes and verifies correct purchase of bid material. Provides direction in utilization of a computerized maintenance management system. Performs emergency electric system restoration as necessary system. Drives personal and/or City of Austin vehicles on official business and must maintain a driver record that meets the City of Austin’s standards.

* The minimum qualifications for this position are graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus four (4) years of experience in all phases of work as a journeyman-level electrician installing, diagnosing, troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems such as medium voltage distribution equipment, motor controls, facility building equipment, and lighting systems at a water or wastewater treatment plant or industrial production plant including two (2) years of which were in a lead or supervisory capacity; OR graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus six years experience in all phases of work as a journey-level electrician, including two of which must be in a lead or supervisory capacity, and two must include directly related utility electrical experience performing installations and diagnostics, including experience working at voltages of 1000V-15kV installing, troubleshooting, and repairing a variety of electrical machinery and equipment in permanent building systems, power generation plants, water or wastewater treatment plants, or industrial plants. Experience must include commercial or industrial wiring, installing, and repairing electrical conduit systems, and troubleshooting industrial motor control systems, mechanical motor starters, soft starters, and variable frequency drives.
