About the Opportunity

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE The desirable candidate should be familiar with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Highway Capacity Manual, CalTrans Highway Design Manual, Caltrans Standards and Specifications, the principles of roadway design, and have experience utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D. Incumbents at this level are responsible for moderately difficult and responsible engineering work in a variety of areas, which include, but are not limited to roadway design, grading and drainage design, project development, public outreach, and plan checking. THE POSITION The Senior Engineering Technician, under direction, performs a wide range of moderately complex technical or paraprofessional engineering work in connection with engineering design and construction, and other related work as required. The successful candidate will prepare engineering plans, (may include architectural plans), profiles, cross-sections, specifications, and cost estimates as well as calculate and plot field survey data. Unless otherwise provided, this position is part of the Classified Service of the County and is assigned to the Technical Services bargaining unit for labor relations purposes. Individuals who are in a full-time classification position are required to serve a twelve-month probationary period, which may be extended an additional six months, for a total of eighteen months. Incumbents may also be subject to overtime, standby, callback, weekend, holiday, and shift assignments as identified in their MOU (Memorandum of Understanding). EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Additional qualifying experience may substitute for the education one year for year basis. One additional year of upper division college coursework with major coursework in engineering may substitute for two years of experience.
