Definition

The Newport Beach Finance Department seeks a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join the team as a Budget Analyst. Check out our video to see what working for the City of Newport Beach is like!

The selected candidate will coordinate budget development activities and special projects; perform a variety of professional, analytical, financial, management, and/or other administrative duties in providing responsible staff support; prepare PowerPoint presentations and disseminate information through attendance and participation in Finance Committee meetings and City Council workshops and meetings; review, analyze and forecast citywide General Fund revenues including Transient Occupancy Taxes, Sales and Use Taxes, Property Taxes and other miscellaneous revenues; and research and analyze a variety of areas including personnel budgeting, internal service funds, user fees, cost allocation, financial planning, financial operations, and operations of different work processes. The ideal candidate will have experience with budget administration in a governmental setting, excellent oral and written communication skills, polished interpersonal skills, outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills, a service orientation, a positive attitude, and demonstrate strong ethics and integrity.

Experience & Education and License/Certificate

A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible professional-level administrative staff experience. Experience in budget, payroll, accounting or related field is desirable.

Education: Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business, accounting, public administration or related field.

License/Certificate : Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record may be required.

Additional Requirement : Candidates deemed most qualified, as reflected in their application materials, will be invited to continue in the recruitment process. Prior to employment, a thorough background review, which includes the candidate providing fingerprints to Newport Beach Police Department, must successfully be completed. The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be evaluated along with the other information received in connection with your application. Disaster Service Worker : In accordance with Government Code Section 3100, City of Newport Beach Employees, in the event of a disaster, are considered disaster service workers and may be asked to respond accordingly.

$7,341.57 - $10,841.81 Monthly
