Registered Professional Engineer or Architect.

Position Overview:
This position works in the Capital Delivery Services Department, Architectural Project Management Division. This position is responsible for the supervision of project management staff that manage city wide Capital Improvement Projects and manage individual projects.

Travel:

The Capital Delivery Services Department is comprised of multiple facilities located throughout Austin. If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Record Evaluation you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

90 Day Provision for Additional Vacancy:

If the same or an additional vacancy occurs within the Capital Delivery Services Department in the same job title within 90 days after the start date of the top candidate, the additional position may be offered to another top candidate from the same candidate pool. This may include filling other vacancies with the same job title in other division/work locations within the City of Austin, Capital Delivery Services Department. Decisions on assigned selection may be made at the time of hire based on the business needs of the department.

• Experience managing Architectural Projects in all phases from planning to construction, including those that are large and complex in nature.
• Experience managing public sector Architectural Projects, specifically Capital Improvement Projects.
• Knowledge of, and experience applying, City of Austin Building and Development Codes and Capital Delivery Processes.
• Experience managing projects utilizing alternative delivery methods, including Construction Manager at Risk ( CMAR ) and/or Design-build.
• Experience making presentations and answering questions in front of citizens, boards, commissions, and/or government councils.
• Experience communicating and/or negotiating with internal and external stakeholders.
• Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design ( LEED ) Certification, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment.
• Ability to travel to multiple work locations, when required.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

Assigns projects, establishes schedule, monitors performance of staff, provides guidance and leadership, and ensures project completion within timelines. Acts as liaison with customers and contractors to ensure customer satisfaction. Coordinates and cooperates with other agencies, departments, divisions, and private utilities involved in or affected by project(s). Represents the City of Austin and Austin Energy to councils, boards, and other regulatory agencies. Establishes and ensures completion of quality assurance measures by developing, monitoring, and analyzing reports and providing revisions to policies and procedures. Develops and monitors O&M and/or CIP budgets and responds to any deviations from the approved cost/timeline projections.

• Knowledge of construction management techniques and building operations energy using technologies and project management systems.
• Knowledge of engineering and/or architectural principles, practices, and methods.

• Knowledge of engineering and architectural design principles, practices, and procedures; and estimating techniques.
• Knowledge of budget policies and principles.

• Ability to communicate in oral or written format to a variety of audiences.
• Ability to direct the timely production of project proposals and agreements.
