Child Support Specialists II* are lead workers handling the most complex and sensitive child support cases. Incumbents assist the supervisor in reviewing the work and training of line staff and perform case audits for quality assurance and staff development.

Pre-employment Process: Applicants must pass a background investigation, including DOJ/FBI clearance, credit check, physical examination and drug test, prior to appointment.
Work Assignment: Applicants must be willing to accept assignment, as needed , to any of the DCSS offices, which are located in Loma Linda, Victorville, and Ontario.
Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum RequirementsExperience: Eighteen (18) months of full-time equivalent experience establishing or enforcing child support obligations as a
Child Support Specialist I (or equivalent) in a county agency overseen by a State Department of Child Support Services.
--AND--Education: Thirty (30) semester or forty-five (45) quarter units of completed college coursework from an accredited college or university in Business/Public Administration, Administration of Justice, Behavioral/Social Science, English, Math, Humanities or closely related field.
Transcripts MUST be submitted with the application if the applicant does not possess an associate's degree or higher in one of the qualifying fields of study. SUBSTITUTION OPTIONS :Option 1: Additional qualifying experience as a
Child Support Specialist I overseen by a State Department of Child Support Servicesmay be substituted for the required education on the basis of six (6) months of experience for fifteen (15) semester (23 quarter) units of completed college coursework in the qualifying fields of study listed above.
- Substitution Option 1a: Twenty-four (24) months of full-time equivalent experience as a Child Support Specialist I and fifteen (15) semester (23 quarter) units of completed college coursework in a qualifying field of study.
- Substitution Option 1b: Three (3) years (or more) of full-time equivalent experience as a Child Support Specialist I with no college coursework.
-OR- Option 2: Twelve (12) months of experience as a lead worker or supervisor over technical staff may be substituted for a maximum of six (6) months of the required Child Support Specialist I experience.
- Substitution Option 2: Twelve (12) months of full-time equivalent experience as a lead or supervisor and twelve (12) months of full-time equivalent experience as a Child Support Specialist I (or equivalent) and thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of completed college coursework in a qualifying field of study.
IMPORTANT NOTES: International Coursework: Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied with an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.
Experience: Child Support Specialist Trainee and general childcare experience are not considered qualifying. Desired QualificationsThe ideal candidate is a person who fosters teamwork; has excellent organizational and time management skills; utilizes critical thinking and problem solving; finds innovative ways to achieve the department's goals; is able to effectively plan, prioritize, execute work, and has excellent communication skills.
