Job Summary

This position is a temporary, limited - term, full-time assignment. Typical work schedule will rotate and consist of 10 days worked and 4 days off/5 days worked and 2 days off.

Incumbents are classified as temporary employees and are employed for a period not-to-exceed one year from date of employment.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Reports to : Operations Supervisor Stormwater, Canal, Drainage and Operations Manager Facilities

DEFINITION

Under immediate supervision, depending on assignment, learns and performs a variety of manual, semi-skilled and skilled duties associated with the construction, installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of the District’s domestic water distribution, wastewater treatment, and collection systems equipment and facilities; services and repairs water meters, regulating valves, and appurtenances; performs preventative maintenance inspections,; operates and maintains deep well, booster pumps, and pumping facilities; maintains and repairs waterlines and monitors and operates water systems; performs a variety of construction and maintenance duties for the stormwater and drainage system; performs preventative maintenance and repair on canals, meters, gates, screens, generators, and associated District infrastructure and facilities; performs weed eradication and control; delivers irrigation water to agricultural customers; and performs related work as required.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

This is an entry-level, trainee classification. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform less difficult and complex tasks in a training capacity involving the operation, maintenance, and repair of a variety of District’s operations systems and equipment. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied, complex, and difficult; close supervision and frequent review of work lessen as an incumbent demonstrates skill to perform the work independently. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education: Equivalent to a High School Diploma.

Experience: Depending on assignment, one (1) year of experience working in the plumbing, construction, or automotive trades.

Licenses and Certifications: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License, to be maintained throughout employment.
