Classification Summary Recreation Attendants will attend to rentals at various facilities in the City. Recreation Attendants may work at multiple locations and will provide excellent customer service, enforce policies, and follow set guidelines. A successful candidate will represent the City of Kennewick in a positive and professional manner.
Recreation Attendants will usually be scheduled between 10-70 hours per month based on business needs, typically on evenings, weekends, and holidays. Schedules will be provided a month in advance but will be subject to change until two weeks before an event for standard rentals. Recreation Attendants must maintain open communication with Parks and Recreation staff at all times.
Work Schedule The work schedule for this classification will be part-time and highly variable based on the City’s business needs. Early mornings, evenings, weekend, and holiday work will be required. This classification is non-exempt under the FLSA.
Examples of Work Performed (Illustrative Only) Essential Duties The following list reflects the essential job duties and responsibilities of this classification, but should not
be considered all-inclusive. The incumbent will be expected to perform other related duties as assigned.
- Open and secure facilities during a rental, event, or City-sponsored program.
- Conduct walk-throughs before and after facility rentals and complete check-list reports.
- Provide excellent customer service to the community and patrons.
- Arrive promptly at assigned locations within Kennewick and during allotted time frame
throughout a work day. - Enforce a variety of policies and procedures for a successful and safe rental, event, or program.
- Monitor and perform general custodial duties.
- Respond to emergency and safety situations, inform supervisor, and submit documentation. Call 911 for assistance when necessary.
- Work cohesively with other City staff.
- Communicate procedural challenges, repair, or maintenance needs and operation outcomes to Supervisor.
- Maintain a professional appearance at all times consistent with the City’s uniform standards and dress code policy.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Employment Standards Minimum Qualifications This position requires a high school diploma or G.E.D., or work experience sufficient to demonstrate the
knowledge, skills and, abilities to perform duties listed above.
- Must be assertive and dependable.
- Must maintain regular attendance.
- Must possess excellent customer service skills. Previous customer service experience is highly desirable.
- Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must pass a criminal background investigation.
- Must obtain CPR/First-Aid Certification within 3 months of employment.
- Must maintain a level of mental and physical fitness required to perform the essential functions of this classification.
Physical Requirements: - Must be able to lift 30lbs
- Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions
This position is not subject to health or retirement benefits. But, this position is eligible for Washington State Paid Sick Leave to accrue 1 hour for every 40 hours worked.
