• Manage all aspects of the school health program. This includes, but is not limited to, identifying needs and resources; developing initiatives and partnerships to address identified needs; preparing testimony and other supporting documentation for the Department leadership; and researching, proposing, and developing policy changes.
• Set quality standards for school health policies, nursing procedures, and health records and initiate or coordinate quality assurance programs to ensure accountability.
• Provide technical assistance and professional consultation to statewide school health services programs within the scope of the Nursing Practice Act while developing and adapting approaches to problems that consider cultural differences.
• Provide supervision for school health team members who support professional, financial, technical, and information systems and communication regarding programs.
• Provide consultation and technical assistance to local school districts and coordinate school health program activities with public health, social services, environmental, educational agencies, and other public and private entities while establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, professionals and the general public.
• Monitor, interpret, synthesize, and disseminate relevant information associated with health and medical care changes, school nursing practice, legislative changes, and legal issues impacting schools through research and data analysis.
• Develop, interpret, update, and disseminate policies, standards, records, and procedures to enhance comprehensive school health programs.
• Promote quality assurance in school health services by initiating and coordination a quality assurance program.
• Foster and promote staff development for school nurses by planning and providing orientation, coordinating and/or providing educational offerings and networking with universities and other continuing education providers to meet identified needs.
• Present effective education to individuals and groups using principles of adult learning.
• Participate in state-level public interagency/private partnerships to develop and coordinate school-based or school-linked services, promote interagency solutions to resolve local school/community problems, and represent school nurses in a multi-disciplinary collaboration.
• Serve as a liaison and resource expert in school nursing and school health programs for local, regional, state, and national school health providers and policy-setting groups. Provide education and awareness to local education agencies across the State on the importance of and implimentation of nursing protocols and clinical practice guidelines for developing Individualized Health Care Plans for children with special health care needs and Emergency Action Care Plans (EAPs) for children with the potential for a life threatening event in the school setting.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A bachelor of science in nursing degree and a minimum of three years supervisory nursing experience OR a master of science in nursing degree
• Five or more years working as a registered nurse in a Missouri school district
• Must have, or be willing to obtain a certificate as a Nationally Certified School Nurse within the first year of starting the position.
• Knowledge and ability to analyze and provide technical assistance on evidence-based school nursing protocols, clinical practice guidelines, professional nursing standards, and federal and state laws pertaining to school health services.
• Demonstrated experience working with various partners, including schools and communities and all levels of leadership.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience using technology and various computer programs (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, video-conferencing, and online survey platforms) for coordinating activities and project reporting.
