We are searching for a team member who is:
Highly motivated and diligent in performing technical and complex statistical research analysis and compiling and interpreting statistical records and reports of departmental programs, projects, and activities.

Essential Job Functions

Addresses requests for statistical studies and determines methodology for ongoing or new projects relating to public safety (such as crime, probation, and public welfare).

Reviews statistical product requests from various units; analyzes variables collected to determine methodology and execute data analysis.

Analyzes statistical data from departmental policing jurisdictions related to calls for service, incidents, and arrests.

Reviews and analyzes quality of statistical output and implied inferences; audits reporting of statistical data.

Utilizes computer data systems to compile and analyze data; interprets trends, fluctuations, and other changes in statistical data related to departmental projects or programs.

Prepares reports, graphs, charts, tables, and occasionally provides oral presentations of recommendations resulting from statistical studies.

Provides statistical information to departmental staff and public and private agencies, as assigned.

Consults with program and administrative staff in the development and completion of projects, as required.

Develops and maintains effective relationships with liaisons from other agencies and other key stakeholders to exchange crime trend information and statistics.

Oversees and reviews the work of clerical personnel engaged in performing statistical-related functions, as required.

Delegates project work to statistical analysts for assignments and projects.

Reviews statistical products for quality and accuracy.

Participates on committees as a subject matter expert for data entry, quality, and identifying data elements.
Effectively communicates and presents complex data to various audiences.

Leads data quality initiatives and may provide technical guidance to staff on statistical processes and data verification procedures.

Designs and maintains spreadsheets, database queries, and automated reporting processes to streamline statistical workflows to ensure accuracy and consistency.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY

OPTION I:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree* in Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field, including two (2) semester or three (3) quarter courses* in statistics or research methods.

OPTION II:
Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate of Arts degree* in Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field, including two (2) semester or three (3) quarter courses* in statistics or research methods -AND- one (1) year of experience in a governmental law enforcement agency working with software packages such as word processing, statistical packages, spreadsheets, or records management systems at the level of Los Angeles County class of Statistical Analyst, Sheriff **.

OPTION III:
Two (2) years of experience at the level of Los Angeles County class of Statistical Analyst, Sheriff **.

LICENSE
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

PHYSICAL CLASS
Physical Class II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE

As part of this application process, applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire. The questionnaire contains a pre-investigative questionnaire which will be utilized as part of the background investigation process to ensure applicants meet the standards set forth by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Applicants who fail the pre-investigative questionnaire will be disqualified and will have to wait three (3) months from the date of the disqualification in order to reapply.

EXAMINATION CONTENT
This examination will consist of a computerized multiple-choice test covering Knowledge of Statistics and Data Presentation weighted 100%.

THE COMPUTERIZED MULTIPLE-CHOICE TEST IS NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.

APPLICANTS MUST ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70% OR HIGHER ON THE EXAMINATION IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE LIST.

TESTING ACCOMMODATION

TEST PREPARATION
Department of Human Resources (DHR) provides study guides and other test preparation resources to help candidates prepare for employment tests. While the guides may help in preparing for the test, we recommend reviewing all related materials that seem necessary.

VETERAN'S CREDIT

If you are a veteran, you may be eligible for veteran's credit, which is an additional 10% of the total points added to a passing score. We will need a copy of your form DD214 to review, so please include that with your application or email it to sheriffexamsunit@lasd.org within seven (7) calendar days from the date of filing your online application.

ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION
The names of applicants receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible list in the order of their score group for a period of six (6) months from the date of promulgation.

The eligible list from this examination will be used to fill vacancies within the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Detective Division, Fraud and Cyber Crimes Bureau.
